Matthew Tyas - Dans Le Bois FDdV[#006]

Quan els de FDdV em van demanar d’escriure alguna cosa sobre un disc que feia molt temps que tenien ganes de treure, em vaig preguntar per què deurien pensar que jo encaixava en aquesta tasca. No hagués sabut molt bé què dir si no fos perquè l'autor és Matthew Tyas, un artista que porto cert temps seguint per les xarxes, de pura casualitat. Primer em van cridar molt l'atenció una sèrie de vídeos i, investigant, vaig acabar trobant una mena de caixes DIY i sintetitzadors digitals programats a través de l'entorn Axoloti. Des de llavors que estic enganxat, sobretot, a uns curts de dibuixos i pintures 'animades' que mescla amb música original.

De primeres, el títol del treball ja m’evoca certa relació amb la natura, amb allò primitiu i natural. Dans Le Bois t’obliga a endinsar-te en un paisatge sonor que es va ramificant en diferents escenaris a partir d'un mateix origen, on cada tema és fruit de l'experimentació sònica en directe, mitjançant un sol instrument. La música es construeix a base de modulacions, dotant-la d’un caràcter orgànic que incita al moviment, com si d'un explorador a la recerca d'alguna cosa es tractés. Tot plegat conté un aire futurístic i enigmàtic, com si una civilització futura hagués arribat a la Terra, ja despoblada de l'espècie humana, per investigar el nostre planeta.

Aquest projecte reflecteix un diàleg entre l'autor i el medi on s'ha creat, retroalimentant-se mútuament. Això confereix una veu molt singular a Dans Le Bois, una veu que enganxa a l'oient gràcies a una història que es va obrint pas a través de fluctuacions electròniques. Sigui com sigui, ara és el vostre torn per donar-li una oportunitat. Jo el recomano.

Cuando los de FDDV me pidieron escribir algo sobre un disco que llevaban mucho tiempo con ganas de sacar, me pregunté por qué yo les encajaba para esta tarea. No hubiese sabido muy bien qué escribir si no fuese porque el autor es MatthewTyas, un artista al que llevo un tiempo siguiendo por las redes, de pura casualidad, por sus series de videos que me llamaron mucho la atención, e investigándole encontré una especie de cajas DIY y sintetizadores digitales programados a través del entorno Axoloti. Desde entonces estoy enganchado, sobre todo, a una serie de cortos de dibujos y pinturas ‘animadas’ junto con música original.

De primeras, el título del trabajo ya me evoca una relación con la naturaleza, con lo primitivo y natural. Dans Le Bois es adentrarse en un paisaje sonoro que ramifica en diferentes escenarios dentro de un mismo núcleo, donde cada tema revela una experimentación del sonido en directo a través de un solo instrumento.

La música está construida a base de unas modulaciones del sonido, que lo dotan de un carácter orgánico que incita al movimiento, como si de un explorador en búsqueda de algo se tratara. Una síntesis del sonido que contiene un aire futurístico y enigmático, que me transporta a una civilización futura que ha llegado a la Tierra, ya despoblada de la especie humana, para investigar nuestro planeta.

Este proyecto refleja un diálogo entre el autor y el medio donde se ha creado el trabajo, que se retroalimentan dándole una voz única al álbum, enganchando a la mente del oyente con la historia que se abre paso a través de los sonidos electrónicos fluctuantes.

De todas formas, ahora es el turno de darle una oportunidad por vuestra cuenta. Yo lo recomiendo.

When the guys from FDdV asked me to write a few words about their new record, scheduled to be released long time ago, I wondered why I fitted for this task. I wouldn't have known what to say if it wasn't because of the person behind the album, Matthew Tyas, an artist I've been following for a while on the social networks, purely by chance. First, it was his video series that caught my attention and, after some research, I found a sort of DIY boxes and digital synthesizers programmed using the Axoloti environment. Since then, I have been hooked, above all, on a series of ‘animated’ drawings and paintings combined with original music that he posts on a regular basis.

The first impression of the album, while reading its title, evokes a relationship with nature, with the primitive and the natural. Dans Le Bois means going inside of a soundscape that branches in different spaces but within the same core, where each track reveals live sound experimentation through a single instrument. The music is built with peculiar sound modulations due to the interaction with the habitat, which endow it with an organic character that induces movement as an explorer searching for something in a recondite place was. The futuristic and enigmatic nuances transport me to a future civilization that has arrived on a post-human Earth aiming to investigate the planet.

This work reflects a feedback dialogue between the author and the environment where it was conceived, both nurturing each other and providing a unique voice to the album. The listener gets engaged with a story that unravels itself as the fluctuating electronic sounds invade one's mind. Now, it's your turn to give it a try. I recommend it.
